Heavy Rains Disrupt Train Services in Rajasthan, IMD Issues Red Alert for Two Districts

Jaipur: Rain continues in Rajasthan due to the southwest monsoon. Pachpadra in Balotra district and Amet in Rajsamand recorded the highest rainfall of 9 cm each in the last 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Banswara and Dungarpur districts, an orange alert for nine districts, and a yellow alert for the remaining districts on Friday.

Did rain affect routes?

Heavy rains have affected bus and train traffic. Train services on the Mumbai route were disrupted due to rising water levels near Bridge No. 203 between Gholvad and Umargam Road stations on the Western Railway, disrupting train services. The railways said several trains were cancelled due to the disruption.

The North Western Railway said three trains scheduled for July 24 Bandra Terminus-Jaisalmer, Dadar-Bhagat Ki Kothi and Bandra Terminus-Ajmer were cancelled due to the disruption.

Which districts were affected?

According to the India Meteorological Department, during the 24 hours leading up to Friday morning, moderate to heavy rain was recorded at many places in eastern Rajasthan, while many areas of western Rajasthan also experienced moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Pachpadra and Amet received the most rainfall of 9 cm each, while Salumbhar, Jhadol in Udaipur, and Badesar in Chittorgarh recorded 7 cm each. Many other places received less than 7 cm of rain.

Many rivers are in spate

Heavy rains disrupted normal life in several districts, flooding fields in Hanumangarh, Sriganganagar, Beawar, Bhilwara, and Udaipur. The Som and Mahi rivers are in spate in Dungarpur, while waterlogging, overflowing seasonal rivers, and damaged culverts have disrupted road connectivity to several villages and small towns.

What did IMD say?

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Banswara and Dungarpur and has issued an orange alert for Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Salumbar, Sirohi, Udaipur, Balotra and Barmer districts, while a yellow alert is in effect for many other parts of the state. On Thursday, the highest temperature in the state was recorded at 38.4 degrees Celsius in Phalodi, while the lowest temperature was 23.4 degrees Celsius in Dabok (Udaipur). It should be noted that Gujarat, adjacent to Rajasthan, is also experiencing heavy rainfall. Due to the rain, train traffic has been affected in Gujarat as well .
